Implant Restorations
If you are having difficulties with your implants and schedule an appointment with our office. It is imperative that we examine your dental implant right away, and that you do not try to self-diagnose the problem. This can lead to further irritation and dental challenges. During a examination, we can let you know if you need a dental implant restoration and the best way to proceed.
How Common Are Problems?
Although they are rare, at Southern Utah Dental, one of the reasons that we recommend dental implants is due to their high success rate. Depending on the dentist you visit, the success rate can be as high as 99 percent. If there is a problem, your dental implant can become loose or the crown (tooth portion) could crack or fall off. If a problem does occur, we will be able to repair the damage and fix the situation in an efficient manner.
Why Do They Become Loose?
If your implant has become loose due to the fact that osseointegration never took place, it may be because you have had bad dental health. Your body requires time to create a new root system around your implant. If you have bad oral health, such as gum disease or an infection, the bone can deteriorate and destroy the area surrounding an implant. This can cause your implant to become loose in future situations.
Additionally, if you develop an infection within your mouth or on the roof of your mouth (the gums), it could negatively impact the rest of your jawbone by destroying healthy bone tissue that is capable of holding an implant firmly in place. Doing so will prevent tooth movement and hurting yourself when using any kind of device that requires teeth for support like retainers and dentures.
What Is Involved In Repair?
If the tooth or part of a tooth needs to be repaired, we can then attach a new crown without replacing the implant. If a cavity has been filled, and is leaking again, then it can also be fixed without replacing your implant. Before we can make an appointment to do this, you must come into our office in person so that we may check to see if your teeth are healthy (sufficient bone). This procedure will only take approximately 10 minutes.
Regardless of what happens with your dental implant, this procedure restores sensation in most patients immediately after they leave our office because there isn't any damage done to the nerves in the jaw that would remain numb after removal. If problems arise later on down the road when you need another crown or root canal treatment for another reason - You will have already had it by then!
